Writing in Journals

2/27/2017

Writing, like any creative takes lots of practice, time and you need to find a way, to get your mind and creativity flowing. Inspiration doesn't just happen out of the blue and in a special moment.  I have learned, over the past two years, is that inspiration, and letting your mind be free, is not as clear cut and up in the air as one would think.
This is what I've learned: You have to train your mind to let creativity and ideas flow through you, something the lets your body and mind know, that it is time to let yourself wander through your thoughts, your experiences, your heart; let yourself know that you are ready to face those things, you are ready to share them not only with others, but with yourself.
For me, this requires the right pen, firstly. When I want to write, I have my pens. I have loads of them in fact. I carry different types, different sizes, different coloured inks, because sometimes a colour can change a mood; can change almost anything with me. When I'm upset, I use my Deep Dark Blue ink color, because it radiates with me, it feels with me, When I'm happy, I have the regal Monaco Red.  Where I write, is also important. I have a stack of Moleskin Journals that I keep on my bookshelf. They have various different colours, and each one, is decorated in its own special way. Sometimes I put stickers, other times I'll paint, or draw; it doesn't matter too much, as long as I know I've given my journal a personal touch.
Once I have all my writing instruments, then I get comfortable. I can sit on the couch, or at a desk, or in my bed; it doesn't matter, but I'll have a snack, some grapes, an orange, nothing too messy, maybe some carrots and dip; or I'll have a mug of coffee, tea or water. I need to be sure that I won't need to get up, that I won't be distracted. Then, I brainstorm. I write words, subjects, thoughts, images in my mind. I write down a journal entry if I have to; I need to know what I want to write about, what do I want my heart and mind to open up about. Once that's all done, I'm set. I write.

What do you write with? Is there something special you do before you start creating? I would like to know! Send me any tips or whatnot to my email at antigoni@live.ca
